Ekiben

One of the pleasures of traveling in Japan is to enjoy the many "Ekiben" (or station lunchboxes) that are sold at various stations.

If you are travelling by local train or the ordinary express train, sometimes you can just open the window and buy your "ekiben" from the seller through the window, without getting off the train. The interesting thing is in each city, the "ekiben" varies according to the local flavour and delicacy.

The picture shown here is of a "shumai bentou" from Yokohama. Quite a popular meal with tourists travelling on train, it is both convenient and delicious as well.
